Dear Sirs,

Good day.

Please be advised that Mitsubishi Motors is exhausting my patience and my good will with your practice to not reply to my multiple emails and technical questions and by not providing any solution to my car problems that are continuing for many months now.


I would like to remind you that :

A. HISTORY OF EVENTS

1) In February 2013 I purchased a new Mitsubishi ASX 5D 1.8DID Diesel 4WD MY12 4N13 (VIN JMBXJGA6WCZ407804, engine S/N 4N13AL3254) from Mitsubishi Motors Greece – Saracakis Brothers S.A. (official distributor in Greece). Kindly refer to the attached Purchase Invoice.

2) At 9.600Km on my car odometer (August 28th 2013) the alarm CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL (= the engine oil level has increased excessively according to the attached Engine Oil Level Warning display from the User Manual) appeared on my car information display screen. I immediately stopped the car and checked the engine oil (according to the attached Check Engine Oil Procedure from the User Manual) and I found it had reached approximately 20mm above the max point on the oil level index. I immediately contacted Papras S.A. - Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Service Point and I slowly drove my car to their workshop to their workshop (as their technicians advised me to do). After inspecting my car the technicians confirmed the excessive engine oil level problem. The technicians claimed that this excessive engine oil was caused by ‘’normal and acceptable’’ fuel dilution during the DPF regeneration process, they claimed that this engine oil dilution with fuel does not affect the lubricating performance of the engine oil and that the excessive engine oil level will not damage the car engine. The technicians found there was about 1littre of fuel inside the engine oil. They replaced the engine oil and oil filter with new on warranty basis and they used 5,3lts of Genuine Mitsubishi DiaQueen JASO DL-1 SAE 5W30 (as is advised in the attached Recommended Engine Oil Viscosity Diesel-powered Engines from the User Manual). The engine oil level after its renewal was exactly on the max point on the oil level index. The technicians reset the alarm and they performed forced regeneration of the DPF.

Kindly refer to the attached 9.600Km Repair Warranty Invoice that mentions all the relevant jobs that were performed.

The average fuel consumption of my car until now (which I calculated each time I re-filled the car fuel tank = the actual fuel consumed) was 6,4L/100Km.

3) From 10.000Km until 12.036Km on my car odometer I noticed my car performed DPF regenerations every 100-150Km. The technicians at Papras S.A. had informed me that the normal is to perform DPF regenerations approximately every 800Km.

4) At 12.036Km on my car odometer (October 11th 2013) I brought my car again for inspection to Papras S.A. Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Service Point because it was performing abnormal DPF regenerations every 100-150Km and because the engine oil dilution with fuel continued (the engine oil level had increased again and had reached 6mm above the max point on the oil level index). These DPF regenerations were recorded in my car ECU and were confirmed by the technicians. Also a specialized technician from Saracakis Brothers S.A. (main distributor of Mitsubishi Motors Greece) attended for inspection of my car. After the inspection the technicians advised me that a further inspection/adjustment of the engine air valves will be necessary. They also repeated their claim that the excessive engine oil was ‘’normal and acceptable’’, that this fuel dilution does not affect the lubricating performance of the engine oil and that the excessive engine oil level will not damage the car engine.

The average fuel consumption of my car (which I calculated each time I re-filled the car fuel tank = the actual fuel consumed) was now 7,03L/100Km.

5) At 12.290Km on my car odometer (October 16th 2013) I brought my car again to Papras S.A. Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Service Point. The engine oil dilution with fuel continued and the engine oil level had reached now 13mm above the max point on the oil level index (I checked it before starting my car to go to Papras S.A. - kindly refer to the attached photos of Engine Oil Level at 12.268Km). With the assistance of the technicians I took a sample of the engine oil from the oil sump tank drain which I sent after to Total Lubricants Belgium N.V. ANAC specialized automotive oil laboratory to be analyzed (kindly refer to the attached Oil Analysis Report at 12.290Km). The technicians performed inspection of the engine air valves but no adjustment was necessary because they were all within the acceptable limits. The technicians also removed from the engine the fuel injectors and sent them for inspection to PEAK S.A. (official Denso service center in Greece) but no problem was found with the injectors so they re-installed the same fuel injectors in the engine. They replaced the engine oil and oil filter with new on warranty basis and they used 5,3lts of Genuine Mitsubishi DiaQueen JASO DL-1 SAE 5W30. The engine oil level after its renewal was exactly 1mm below the max point on the oil level index. The technicians reset the alarm and they performed forced regeneration of the DPF.

The average fuel consumption of my car (which I calculated each time I re-filled the car fuel tank = the actual fuel consumed) was now 7,32/100Km.

6) From 12.300Km until 13.929Km on my car odometer my car continued to perform regenerations 100-150Km and the engine oil dilution with fuel continued (the engine oil level reached again 2mm above the max point on the oil level index).

7) At 13.929Km on my car odometer (November 25th 2013) I brought my car to Saracakis Brothers S.A. - Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Service Point because it continued to perform abnormal DPF regenerations every 100-150Km and because the engine oil dilution with fuel continued. These DPF regenerations were recorded in my car ECU and were confirmed by the technicians. The technicians replaced the DPF filter with new one on warranty basis.

Kindly refer to the attached 13.929Km Repair Warranty Invoice that mentions all the relevant jobs that were performed.

The average fuel consumption of my car (which I calculated each time I re-filled the car fuel tank = the actual fuel consumed) was now 7,5L/100Km.

8) From 14.057Km until 14.357Km on my car odometer my car continued to perform abnormal DPF regenerations every 100-150Km and the engine oil dilution with fuel continued. The engine oil level reached now 20mm above the max point on the oil level index (kindly refer to the attached photos of the Engine Oil Level at 14.344Km).

9) At 14.357Km on my car odometer (December 6th 2013) I brought again my car to the Saracakis Brothers S.A. - Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Service Point because it continued to perform abnormal DPF regenerations every 100-150Km and because the engine oil dilution with fuel continued. These DPF regenerations were recorded in my car ECU and were confirmed by the technicians. The technicians performed inspection of the Exhaust Differential Pressure Sensor on warranty basis and also performed some ECU software upgrade.

Kindly refer to the attached 14.357Km Inspection Warranty Invoice that mentions all the relevant jobs that were performed.

The average fuel consumption of my car (which I calculated each time I re-filled the car fuel tank = the actual fuel consumed) was now 7,54L/100Km.

10) From 14.357Km until 14.900Km on my car odometer my car continued to perform abnormal DPF regenerations every 100-150Km and the engine oil dilution with fuel continued.

11) At 14.900Km on my car odometer (December 19th 2013) I brought again my car to the Saracakis Brothers S.A. - Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Service Point because it continued to perform abnormal DPF regenerations every 100-150Km and because the engine oil dilution with fuel continued. These DPF regenerations were recorded in my car ECU and were confirmed by the technicians. The technicians replaced on warranty basis the Exhaust Differential Pressure Sensor. The technicians also removed from the engine the fuel injectors and performed cleaning and visual inspection and re-installed again the same fuel injectors in the engine. The technicians also replaced the engine oil and oil filter with new (for the routine 15.000Km service) and they used 5,3lts of Genuine Mitsubishi DiaQueen JASO DL-1 SAE 5W30. The engine oil level after its renewal was exactly on the max point on the oil level index. The technicians informed me they had found a problem with some timer in the ECU and this was corrected. They claimed that the problems with the DPF regenerations were resolved and that they tested the car and found it now working well.

The average fuel consumption of my car (which I calculated each time I re-filled the car fuel tank = the actual fuel consumed) was now 7,37L/100Km.

12) From 15.175Km until 16.700Km (today) on my car odometer my car continues to perform abnormal DPF regenerations every 100-150Km and the engine oil dilution with fuel continue (the engine oil level has reached now 10mm above the max point on the oil level index – kindly refer to the attached photos of the Engine Oil Level at 16.634Km).

The average fuel consumption of my car (which I calculated each time I re-filled the car fuel tank = the actual fuel consumed) now is 7,38L/100Km.

A. FACTS and PROBLEMS

1) My car has been performing abnormal DPF regenerations every 100-150Km for the last total 7.000Km/5 months.

2) The result of the above abnormal DPF regenerations is that the engine oil in my car is presenting constant dilution with fuel and the engine oil level is constantly increasing above the max point on the oil level index.

3) The results of the attached Oil Analysis Report at 12.290Km (when the engine oil level was 13mm above the max point on the oil level index) clearly indicate that the engine oil in my car had Fuel Contamination/dilution 14,2% and the kinetic Viscosity (100°C) had dropped to 7,6mm2/s.

4) But according to SAE J300 Engine Oil Classification for the engine oils, for this type of engine oil that Mitsubishi Motors advises to be used in my car (oil type Mitsubishi DiaQueen JASO DL-1 SAE 5W30 as per the attached Recommended Engine Oil Viscosity Diesel-powered Engines from the User Manual) the kinetic Viscosity minimum permissible limit is 9,3 mm²/s. So diluted engine oil DiaQueen JASO DL-1 SAE 5W30 with kinetic Viscosity (100°C) 7,6mm2/s IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

5) Also according to JASO M335 Automotive Diesel Engine Oil Standards for oil type Mitsubishi DiaQueen JASO DL-1 SAE 5W30 the kinetic Viscosity minimum permissible limit is 8,6 mm²/s. So in this case diluted engine oil DiaQueen JASO DL-1 SAE 5W30 with kinetic Viscosity (100°C) 7,6mm2/s IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

6) So the above constant engine oil dilution with fuel that appears in my car engine IS NOT ‘’normal’’ and NOT ‘’acceptable’’. This engine oil dilution affects the lubricating performance of the engine oil and it will finally damage my car engine.

7) The attached Oil Analysis at 12.290Km was performed by ANAC Total Lubricants Belgium N.V. that is a certified ISO 9001:2000 specialized automotive oil laboratory with international reputation and they measured the kinetic Viscosity (100°C) 7,6mm2/s by method ISO 3104. The engine oil sample for this Oil Analysis was taken with the assistance of a certified Mitsubishi Motors technician, at a Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Service Point, from the engine oil sump tank drain, with the engine at normal operating temperature, after driving 20Km and following all the required procedures. So Mitsubishi Motors cannot doubt the results of this Oil Analysis.

8) In the User Manual section Recommended Engine Oil Viscosity Diesel-powered Engines (attached) it is stated that ‘’In diesel-powered vehicles, when burning away and removing soot accumulated in the DPF, fuel can mix with engine oil and an increase in the engine oil level may occur. This does not indicate an abnormality. However, if the engine oil level is at or over the X mark on the engine oil dipstick, change the engine oil.’’ This STATEMENT IS FALSE, MISLEADING AND DANGEROUS because as I have proved above, when the engine oil is only 13mm above the max (12mm below the X) then this engine oil Viscosity is unacceptable and needs to be replaced.

9) I have sent you many emails regarding the above engine oil dilution problem of my car (kindly refer to the below emails) and you have not provided me a clear technical reply or solution.

10) Another negative result of the above abnormal DPF regenerations is that fuel consumption of my car (which I calculate each time I re-filled the car fuel tank = the actual fuel consumed) is constantly increasing and it has now reached approximately 7,4L/100Km. This fuel consumption is 1,7L/100Km more than stated Combined/Average Fuel Consumption in the User Manual (attached).

11) The diesel fuel that I have used in my car from the first day I bought it until now is from a specific EKO gas station. EKO is a petroleum company that provides certified EN590 automotive diesel (kindly refer to the attached EKO AUTOMOTIVE DIESEL FUEL SPECIFICATIONS Feb13) and conducts many strict quality checks on its entire distribution network. I have also kept all the fuel purchase receipts from the first day and I can send them to you if you have any doubts.

12) So the problem with the abnormal DPF regenerations and the increased fuel consumption of my car is not caused by the quality of the fuel that I use because I always use certified EN590 fuel as is specifically requested by Mitsubishi Motors in the attached User Manual - Diesel powered vehicles Fuel Selection.

13) in Australia on 16 December 2013 the government announced a safety recall for ALL the Mitsubishi Motors cars of same type and with the same engine type as my car because the piston rings could become stuck due to soot deposits accumulated in the piston ring grooves. ‘’As a result, the pistons may overheat and melt due to excessive blow-by gasses. This may cause the engine to stall or become impossible to restart, posing a potential traffic hazard to road users.’’ Kindly refer to the attached Mitsubishi ASX Diesel MY12 4N13 SAFETY RECALL DEC 2013.

This important problem has not been announced until today to the Mitsubishi ASX Diesel 4N13 11MY & 12MY owners in Greece and Europe.

14) I have sent many emails and reminders (kindly refer to my below emails) to ask information about the about Safety Recall in Australia and also to ask if these Safety Recall problems are related to the abnormal DPF regenerations problems and engine oil dilution problem of my car but MITSUBISHI MOTORS is ignoring me and had not replied.

15) For all the above mentioned problems of my car (the abnormal DPF regenerations problems, the engine oil dilution problems,…) I have brought my car totally 6 times to Mitsubishi Motors Authorized Service Points but still these problems are not corrected.

16) All the above mentioned problems of my car (the abnormal DPF regenerations problems, the engine oil dilution problems, increased fuel consumption) are harming my car, they will damage my car engine, they are reducing the re-sale value of my car and they are causing me to lose valuable time and money.

Please send me in written your official Mitsubishi Motors specific and clear comments for all the above problems that I have reported to you and give a clear, specific, technical solution on how you will correct all these problems. If Mitsubishi Motors cannot correct immediately these problems then I will ask from you to provide me with a new car that does not present all these problems.
